AST Bridge Pins

We’re very pleased to be the carry Kevin Ryan’s AST products.

In particular, I’ve been very impressed with his line of Titanium bridge pins. They offer several advantages to other pins.

  • Increased sustain without weight gain
  • Ball ends will not wear the pin
  • Aesthetics

Increased sustain without weight gain

If you were a player looking to add more sustain and delay the decay of notes, these are some of the best. Why you ask?

Especially when other materials can have a similar effect- like say, brass? Well, they offer the same effect without the weight gain. You see heavier pins will weight down your entire bridge/bridge plate structure, which can change the way your top interacts with the neck and bridge area. In my experience, this results in a less responsive guitar, more midrange but less sparkle.

The AST pins don’t have that same effect. Titanium is very light and very strong. So you retain the sparkle and responsiveness you like in your guitar but add in more sustain.

Ball ends will not wear the pin

There are additional benefits too, the super hard Titanium isn’t going to get chewed up by ball ends. Unlike plastic or other softer materials, this means the ball end is unlikely to dig into your bridge pin. That can become a problem because if the ball ends wear at your pin, eventually there will come a point where it will slip up into pin hole. Not good for stringing, not good for your bridgeplate.

Aesthetics

And of course, they look great. A two-tone plasma coating on the head approximates a black chrome finish. A very precisely engineered pin with a low-profile head that is very pleasing to the eye. Additionally, the inlaid materials offer a great contrast.
