Michael Bashkin began building guitars in 1994 during his graduate studies in Forestry at Colorado State University. While subsequently teaching tropical forestry in Belize, Central America, he took the opportunity to hand select unique woods which are often featured in his instruments. Michael opened shop in 1998, building guitars full-time.

Cantaora Fan Fret Guitar

The Placencia model, named after a town on the coast of Belize meaning ‘peaceful spot’, is a medium-sized guitar created for the fingerstyle player. The design of the soundboard, and the lightweight Brazilian Rosewood bridge, produces a guitar that immediately responds to the most subtle nuances of touch. This guitar has excellent note separation and balance making it well-suited for studio work.

Dimensions – 15.2 inches at the lower bout, 4 ½ inches deep at the tailblock, 25.4-inch scale is standard.
Bellezza – Grand Concert:
The Bellezza model (Bellezza means beauty in Spanish) is designed for the versatile guitar player. With its medium size body it readily adapts to either fingerstlye or flatpicking. It is a well-balanced instrument with the right combination of fundamental and overtones to create a rich and powerful guitar.

Dimensions – 15.2 inches at the lower bout, 4 5/8 inches deep at the tailblock.
Cantaora – Grand Auditorium:
The Cantaora model is a full-size guitar that delivers a powerful sound that can fill a room for performance. It responds well to a light touch, yet can be played hard without losing clarity. It is ideally suited for flatpicking and rhythm playing. The model pictured has a Fiorentine cutaway and Poisonwood back and sides!


Dimensions – 16 inches at the lower bout, 4 3/4 inches deep at the tailblock.
Michael’s fine detailing and finishing is exquisite… from clean joints to hand painted labels and cutaways.
